The Stingrays were the recipients of a grant from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation - Youth Division for two of our four starting blocks. The two remaining blocks were a donation from Joan Nelson.

On January 12, 2002 the Charlevoix Stingrays hosted their first ever HOME swim meet. Over 70 swimmers from Charlevoix and West Branch competed in the meet.

On April 20, 2002 the Stingrays hosted their parents in the First Annual Beat Your Parent Swim Meet. Lots of swimmers and parents participated in event chosen by the swimmers.

In June of 2002 the Stingrays were again recipients from the Charlevoix Community Foundation - Youth Division for a programmable pace clock. The clock is used at swim practices.

In 2006 the Ethel Coeling grant for the Charlevoix Pool was used to purchase Colorado Timing System for home swim meets.

In August 2008 the Stingrays received the Charlevoix Community Foundation - Youth Council grant for new team equipment.

Stingray swim suits, back packs, swim caps, sweatshirts, t-shirts and towels are available for purchase. Goggles are also available at the pool.

The Charlevoix Stingrays are a year-round, age group swim team. The Stingray swimmers range in age from 4-18. We encourage any swimmer who is able to swim the length of the pool to come out and try our swim team practice. Swimmers work on skill, proficiency and endurance, all in a fun and safe environment.

If you have any questions regarding the Stingrays Swim Team, please call Coach Betsy Granstra at 547-0982.

A Competitive Swimmer comes to practice:

The Charlevoix Stingrays are divided up into five groups: Junior Stingrays, Blue, Gold, Silver and Senior, based on age and experience. Practice consists of stroke development in all four competitive strokes, endurance and team camaraderie.

A Competitive Swimmer comes to meets:

The Charleviox Stingrays have a swim meet schedule. Some of our meets will be at home; others will be at different pools across Northern and Central Michigan. While attendance is not a requirement to be a part of the Charlevoix Stingrays, it is a fun way for swimmers to see the rewards of all their time and dedication.

Three types of meets:

Dual/Triangular Meets: two to three teams compete against one another. All ages compete during the same session. Meets usually run two-three hours. Certificates and/or ribbons are awarded.

Invitational Meets: three+ teams compete. Often swimmers 10 and under will swim in the morning and 11 and older will swim in the afternoon. Each session last for two-three hours. Ribbons and/or medals are awarded.

Championship Meets: these meets are held the last Saturday of February and the first Sunday in March. The Northern Novice Championship meet will be held in Harbor Springs, the MTSL Championship will be held in Midland. The Championship meets end the official competitive season for the MTSL. These meets are run like Invitational meets.

A Competitive Swimmer LOVES to swim: the best part of being a competitive swimmer is that you love to be in the water and swim. Swimming should be something that you enjoy doing!
