| Nearly 50 years ago, the late Ralph Hamilton, a member of the Charlevoix Kiwanis Club, envisioned and promoted an indoor pool for Charlevoix. In the fall of 1995 the following was the latest news on the pool: |

- Fund-raising towards $800,000 goal continues, $5,000 gift from the Rainbow Shoppe especially welcomed.
- This year's auction netted $63,000 and recent supporters who conducted fund-raisers include the Coast Guard, Vacation Properties, the Argonne Supper Club and Mahogany's.
- The Friends of the Pool's many volunteers, spearheaded by Bruce and Barbara MacArthur, made the pool a reality in 1997.

The Charlevoix Area Community Pool was one of only a few pools in the country, built and operated without public funding. In 2004 the pool went to the public and passed a Recreational Authority Millage for the City of Charlevoix, Hayes Township and Charlevoix Township. These funds help keep the fees reasonable for users, including dollar nights (non-district users pay $1.50), two nights a week. The millage has also allowed the pool to put aside $35,000 a year in a contingency fund. This fund was used in 2007 to replace the aging ventilation system ($110,000). |
